Governor Cooper Offshore Wind New Initiative for North Carolina
Below is an email that was sent on July 7th from Roy Cooper, the governor of North Carolina.
There is no Planet B
Hi there —
Growing up working on a farm in eastern North Carolina, I learned from my dad the importance of preserving our land for future generations. One of the first bills I ever introduced as a legislator was to protect our land from pollution.
Now, as governor, I’m making it a priority for our state.
That’s why I’m proud to announce an ambitious new initiative that will make our state a leader in offshore wind energy -- and I want to make sure you hear about it directly from me.
We’re committing to produce enough offshore wind energy to power 2 million homes a year by 2040. This is a major step forward -- offshore wind power will help North Carolina create jobs and generate economic development while helping us transition to a clean energy economy.
Now I want to know, do you support building wind energy infrastructure?
YES NO
Look, we all know that this planet is the only home we have. It’s up to us to save it.
Our offshore wind plan is ambitious, but it’s absolutely necessary. In 2018, my Executive Order #80 aimed at further expanding North Carolina’s already thriving clean energy industry. Identifying renewable energy sources, like offshore wind power, is critical to that goal.
We can’t afford to waste any more time. Please, let me know if you support our offshore wind plan for North Carolina.
Thank you for your input — it is critical to helping me serve the people of this great state.
